Holiday Art Shop

From Friday to December 18, the Creativity Explored Gallery on 16th Street will be a holiday shopping destination for nifty gifts. This year’s holiday art boutique features framed artwork at studio prices, clothing and accessories from the Mode Brut fashion show, as well as a special collection of art created at the home during the pandemic. As always, 50% of proceeds from sales of original works of art go directly to artists. The gallery opens from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. For more information, here.

An artistic project presents record covers

For record lovers, each cover is a kind of puzzle that asks: Can you imagine this music, and can you imagine loving it?

This Friday, “Undated Records: A Musical Scene From Another Timeline” by artist Jay Cornell will be on display at the Flying Pig Bistro & Pub. This unusual and perhaps unique art project inspired by Dada, surrealism, pop art and concept art consists of an ongoing series of life-size blankets (7.25 “or 12.5” square) for vinyl singles, maxi-singles and EPs from imaginary bands.

About forty blankets will be on display and for sale. The opening and the show take place from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

29e dog eared books birthday

Also on Friday, Dog Eared Books celebrates its 29e year! The occasion will be marked by an all-day sale (29% on all books, with a few exceptions) and punctuated by a hurray at 7 p.m.

Kate Razo opened Dog Eared Books in Valencia 29 years ago and it remains one of her last titles now. At the time, the store was close to 23rd Street in the space now occupied by Needles & Pens. After a few years, Kate saw that the furniture store / dig on the southwest corner of 20e & Valencia was leaving, so she did some magic and hung up the space. Dog Eared Books has been around ever since.

The past year and a half has been difficult, especially for small businesses. We see this in the empty windows up and down Valencia and other parts of the Mission. Dog Eared Books succeeded thanks to the Mission’s bibliophiles.

So come on Friday, sing a “Happy Birthday” series, buy some books, or just say “Hi! “

San Francisco Porn Film Festival

Today and tomorrow, in-person screenings of the San Francisco PornFilmFestival will take place at the Brava Theater Center. .

San Francisco led the way in 1970 as the first city in the United States to host a public screening of hardcore sex, and the festival honors that heritage. All participants must be over 18 and present an ID. For tickets and more information, here.

The concert will be followed by a question-and-answer session, a great opportunity to gain insight into the inspiration and dedication that drives the artistry of professional musicians. To ensure the safety of artists and the public, places are limited with a live broadcast on CMC Youtube Channel. RSVP for the concert in person here.

Birthday party at Elixir

Elixir celebrates 18 years as Elixir and 163 years as San Francisco’s second oldest saloon on November 13.

Starting at 4 p.m. on Saturday, the saloon will pour out its Weller Full Proof barrel, offer tastings of other Weller bourbons (free with purchase) and hold charity whiskey raffles. The whole celebration will continue until 2 a.m.

A public vigil

FoolsFURY Theater Company, once “one of the brightest stars in the San Francisco Experimental Theater scene,” has announced its impending closure in the coming months. On November 20 at 3:00 p.m., fousFURY will host a public “revival” at the Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts where an altar, created by company members as a “dismantling ritual,” is already on display.
